As cybersecurity evolves into a key sector in the GCC, member countries are developing a multi-faceted strategy to align with regional cybersecurity trends. The UAE has taken proactive steps by preparing regulatory frameworks to address upcoming cybersecurity challenges. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of the UAE Cybersecurity Council (CSC), announced that the National Cybersecurity Strategy will be officially launched this week.

This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to stay ahead of rapid changes in various sectors, especially in advanced technology, and to bolster the country’s standing in artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

On the first day of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai, Dr. Al Kuwaiti explained that the recently approved five-year National Cybersecurity Strategy, which has been endorsed by the UAE Cabinet, focuses on five key pillars. These pillars are intended to support the swift and safe adoption of new technologies while ensuring a secure, resilient, and robust digital landscape.

He also highlighted that the strategy includes specific goals and initiatives to boost the national economy and safeguard critical infrastructure.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti highlighted that global losses from cyberattacks, cyber warfare, and cyberterrorism are expected to reach $10 trillion in 2024. This underscores the UAE’s proactive approach to strengthening its cybersecurity framework to align with global best practices. In this regard, the UAE has invested over $2 billion in cybersecurity and digital transformation.

He also revealed that the Cybersecurity Council is in the final stages of several policies, including a cryptography policy set to be implemented in the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, the council is developing new cybersecurity standards to enhance institutional compliance and security measures.
