The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has confirmed that the UAE’s strategic stockpile of medicines and medical supplies remains sufficient to meet domestic demand, as authorities continue to strengthen the country’s pharmaceutical resilience.

The update follows a series of field visits by Dr Fatima Al Kaabi, Director-General of EDE, to pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities across the UAE to assess production capacity, support local industry and review advanced drug manufacturing technologies.

During the visits, officials were briefed on current production levels, expansion plans, and quality and safety systems aligned with international standards. The inspections also underscored the growing role of domestic manufacturers in maintaining supply chain stability and ensuring the availability of essential medicines.

Al Kaabi said the UAE’s pharmaceutical ecosystem is well positioned to respond to regional and global developments, supported by stronger local manufacturing and an evolving regulatory framework.

She added that local manufacturers play a key role in safeguarding drug security, with close coordination between regulators and industry ensuring uninterrupted supply. The sector, she noted, remains stable and backed by an advanced system that maintains consistent access to medicines.

The visits included facilities operated by Medisal Pharma and ADCAN Pharma, where production and quality systems were reviewed. Both companies highlighted the importance of regulatory collaboration and local manufacturing in sustaining supply, particularly amid global disruptions.

The visits form part of EDE’s broader strategy to enhance industry collaboration, support R&D and build a more resilient, innovation-driven healthcare ecosystem, reinforcing the UAE’s ambition to become a regional pharmaceutical hub.
