As the UAE accelerates its efforts to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050, Ras Al Khaimah has taken a major step forward in advancing sustainable industrial innovation. In a landmark move for the country’s green transition, Sheikh Saqr bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Ceramics, inaugurated Gulf Cryo’s new carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) facility, the first of its kind in the UAE dedicated to producing high-purity carbon dioxide.

The state-of-the-art facility captures CO₂ directly from RAK Ceramics’ production operations and converts it into high-purity CO₂ for reuse across various industries, reducing emissions and waste while promoting a circular economy. The inauguration, attended by senior officials and industry representatives, marks a pivotal milestone in Ras Al Khaimah’s journey toward industrial decarbonisation and sustainable growth.

Developed through a strategic partnership between RAK Ceramics, one of the world’s largest ceramics manufacturers, and Gulf Cryo, a regional leader in industrial gases and decarbonisation technologies, the project demonstrates how collaboration can drive tangible environmental impact. Together, the companies aim to pioneer innovative carbon management solutions that enhance industrial efficiency and support national sustainability goals.

The initiative aligns with the Ras Al Khaimah 2050 Integrated Sustainability Strategy and the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 commitment, underscoring the emirate’s proactive role in building a cleaner, more resilient economy.

Sheikh Saqr said that the project reflects the emirate’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, inspired by the visionary leadership of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, to build a diversified, innovation-driven economy rooted in the protection of natural resources.

The facility sets a new benchmark for sustainable manufacturing in the UAE, positioning Ras Al Khaimah as a regional leader in carbon capture and utilisation technologies.
