What 6,662 projects and 62,800 tons of emissions cuts reveal about Saudi Arabia’s green building strategy
The kingdom has recorded the highest performance score of 76.31 points, surpassing 1.03 million square meters of certified space.
Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a regional frontrunner in the green building sector, recording the highest performance score of 76.31 points and surpassing 1.03 million square meters of certified space, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency.
The sector’s expansion is supported by a professional network of more than 7,300 registered specialists and a portfolio of 6,662 projects. Collectively, these developments are estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 62,800 tons annually, the report said, citing the Saudi Green Building Forum’s SAAF conformity and specifications system.
In 2025, the industry marked a significant transition from primarily technical design applications to a more institutionalized framework guided by measurable performance indicators and strategic partnerships, said Faisal Alfadl, Secretary-General of the Saudi Green Building Forum.
He noted that the sector’s evolution, including the integration of renewable energy, water efficiency systems, and environmentally friendly infrastructure, represents a practical pathway toward achieving the Kingdom’s long-term sustainability ambitions under Saudi Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia’s broader green agenda under Vision 2030 includes a target to source 50 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by the end of the decade, expand energy efficiency measures, and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
