Luxury menswear brand ZEGNA has launched Vellus Aureum, a premium wool collection crafted from ultra-fine Merino fleece.

This initiative honors the legacy of Ermenegildo Zegna, who helmed the brand for three generations and founded the Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Trophy Awards in 1963 to support woolgrowers in producing top-quality wool.

Vellus Aureum takes its name from the myth of the Golden Fleece, a theme reflected in the collection’s official logo. The wool used in this collection represents less than 0.05% of global wool production, with fibres ranging from 12 to 13 microns—finer than typical cashmere.

In 2023, ZEGNA set a world record with a single wool fleece measuring just 9.4 microns, underscoring the brand’s advancements in fine wool production.

Garments in the Vellus Aureum collection are crafted in Italy, with ZEGNA aiming for 100% traceability of the wool fiber by 2025. Consumers will also have access to a digital passport linked to the Aura Blockchain, offering insights into each garment’s origins via an NFC tag.

The collection, which will debut in the Spring/Summer 2025 season, includes a range of garments, from suits to knitwear, and will be available exclusively at select ZEGNA stores worldwide.
