Two months after Careem increased its fleet size in Qatar by more than 50% ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the company announced that it would cease its operation in the country. Careem has been operating in Doha since 2013.

The transportation service provider declared that as of February 28, 2023, its “ride-hailing operations would no longer operate in Qatar” through its app and an email to its registered subscribers.

But unlike other countries in the region, where Careem offered food delivery, digital payments, and courier services, it only provided ride-hailing services in Qatar.

The business also told customers with Careem credit that a complete refund would be given by March 15.

According to the media reports, there was no justification given in Careem’s announcement for why it will stop operating.
