Recent research by Savills suggests that the ecotourism market may see a 15% annual growth from 2021 to 2027. In line with this trend, NEOM, Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion flagship project, has announced plans to broaden its portfolio by adding a new exclusive sanctuary resort.

To explore the ecotourism market further, NEOM plans to establish a luxury destination named Zardun. This destination will cover a four-square-kilometer area, offering stunning views of the Gulf of Aqaba. NEOM has stated that Zardun will feature at least three luxury boutique hotels.

Zardun will be populated with indigenous plants and wildlife from the mountains to the sea. The destination will incorporate ecotourism activities, such as educational programs and field initiatives focused on nature protection, conservation, and rewilding.

Featuring buildings designed to “harmonize seamlessly with the surrounding landscape,” the project is dedicated to sustainable tourism. Additionally, Zardun will include a 360-degree observation deck for breathtaking views. Ecotourism activities for guests will encompass trekking, mountain biking, rock climbing, stargazing, meditation, yoga, and other sports and leisure pursuits.
