UAE launches national program to accelerate advanced science and technology
The new initiative will link technical education, research and innovation with the UAE’s ambitions in advanced industries and strengthen the competitiveness of Emirati products.
The UAE has launched a new national program aimed at strengthening its capabilities in advanced science and technology, with a focus on developing national talent, advancing research and supporting the competitiveness of Emirati products.
The National Program for Advanced Sciences and Technologies follows a decision issued by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is designed to build an education and research system that can keep pace with rapid developments across scientific and technological sectors.
The program will also focus on developing national talent for the UAE’s strategic and advanced industries, according to the UAE’s official news agency WAM.
The program’s first phase will be built around six tracks: Technical Education and National Talent, National Service, Flagship Initiative, Global Challenge, Global Talent Attraction, and Technical Research and Innovation.
Additional tracks could be introduced as the program develops and as further directives are issued by the UAE President.
The structure reflects a broader push to more closely connect education and research with the country’s industrial and technological priorities, while building a stronger pipeline of national expertise.
A Higher Committee will oversee the program, chaired by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Office. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will serve as deputy chairman.
The committee will set the program’s strategic directions, approve its budgets and policies, and report on its progress to the UAE President and Prime Minister.
An Executive Committee will also be established, chaired by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
It will review and approve plans, policies, programs, and initiatives before they are submitted to the Higher Committee. The committee will also oversee implementation, review the budget and monitor progress.
A dedicated office for the National Program for Advanced Sciences and Technologies will support the initiative by tracking its progress and managing local and international partnerships.
The UAE sees the program as a way to bring together education, research, talent and industry around the technologies and scientific capabilities expected to shape its next phase of economic development.
