Emirates has completed the first installation of its next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi system on an Airbus A380, marking a major advancement in inflight connectivity and setting a new benchmark for passenger experience.

The upgraded aircraft, recently returned to Dubai following installation and certification in Newquay, United Kingdom, now features three Starlink antennas designed specifically for the A380’s double-decker structure and large passenger volume. The system dramatically enhances internet performance, increasing connectivity capacity up to a thousand-fold compared to previous onboard systems that delivered less than 1 Mbps.

With more than 2 Gbps of total bandwidth, passengers across all cabin classes will receive complimentary high-speed internet access, enabling a seamless “better than at home” online experience at cruising altitude.

The move is part of Emirates’ wider strategy to modernize its fleet and elevate service offerings. The airline plans to accelerate Starlink installations across additional A380 aircraft throughout 2026, while installations at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai are expected to speed up deployment.

Future enhancements will also include live TV streaming capabilities through Starlink, initially accessible via passengers’ personal devices before expanding to seatback entertainment systems.

Emirates has already equipped 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with the Starlink system, with more than 650,000 travelers having experienced the upgraded service so far.

The connectivity expansion complements Emirates’ broader retrofit programme, which has seen 93 aircraft refurbished with upgraded interiors, cabins, and enhanced inflight entertainment systems featuring more than 6,500 channels.

This latest development reinforces Emirates’ continued investment in redefining the travel experience while maintaining its competitive edge in premium aviation services.
