Qatar Tourism has brought in football icon David Beckham to help boost the country’s reputation as a holiday destination. The country wants to become a destination of choice for a weekend break for the GCC residents and aims to host six million visitors annually by 2030.

The campaign by Qatar Tourism has David spending 48 hours in the country and exploring various spots, like visiting the spice markets of Souq Waqif and enjoying local street art. He is seen cooking tacos, camping in the desert, and discovering the city of Doha on a motorbike.

David is also seen visiting the Katara Amphitheatre with Qatari footballer Noora Nasser. The pair can be seen talking about women’s football and the Fifa World Cup.

The 30-minute video has David saying, “Qatar has surprised me with a wide range of great experiences you can have in just 48 hours. The people are warm and welcoming, and it is a great place to spend a few days.”

This video will be shared on social media channels and Qatar Tourism’s website and hosted on Qatar Airways’ in-flight entertainment systems.

Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, said, “It has been a pleasure to welcome David to Qatar, where he has immersed himself in the culture and experienced first-hand the warm hospitality of the people. I encourage the millions who transit through Qatar every year to follow in David’s footsteps and create their own exciting adventures and memories.”

The campaign has been released right ahead of the Qatar World Cup 2022, slated to start in November. The Qatari government has also revealed that it is developing five new tourist destinations ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Qatar expects over 1.2 million people to visit the country during the gala sporting event; a few cruise ships will also be used as hotels to accommodate people jetting in to witness the games.
