The rise of digitalization of services and online activities in the Middle East has raised the risk of cyberattacks in several industries, including water, gas, and electricity.

In a recent development, all corporate and public institutions, as well as citizens, have been forewarned by the UAE Cybersecurity Council of the dangers of cyberattacks, particularly during the festive season and New Year’s celebrations.

The council emphasized the necessity for all institutions and authorities to turn on their cyber defense systems, increase public knowledge of online safety, and work with the appropriate authorities to communicate pertinent information proactively.

Additionally, given the growing reliance on digital services, it was highlighted that hacking tools had been made easier to use, making it possible for hackers to profit from the holiday season.

The council stressed the necessity of adopting cybersecurity policies and protection mechanisms and raising awareness among public and private institutions and individuals, which will play a key role in safeguarding the community against malicious cyberattacks, and warned of all types of cyberattacks against crucial sectors.
