Saudi Arabia tops global cybersecurity rankings, credits Vision 2030 and international initiatives
The kingdom led the creation of the GCC Cybersecurity Ministerial Committee and the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers.
Saudi Arabia has secured the top position in global cybersecurity, as per the 2024 World Competitiveness Yearbook released by the Swiss-based Institute for Management Development (IMD).
The National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) credited Saudi Arabia’s ascent to the pinnacle of the cybersecurity rankings to a blend of domestic and international initiatives, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The NCA emphasized that a pivotal factor contributing to Saudi Arabia’s cybersecurity leadership is the establishment of the Global Cybersecurity Forum (GCF), which facilitates international dialogue on crucial cybersecurity matters. The GCF Institute plays a significant role in reinforcing this commitment by advancing global cooperation within the sector.
Saudi Arabia’s leadership extends regionally as it initiated the formation of both the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Cybersecurity Ministerial Committee and the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers. These initiatives highlight the kingdom’s commitment to promoting collaboration and cooperation among Arab nations in the cybersecurity domain.
Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban, Chairman of the NCA Board of Directors, congratulated Saudi leadership on this achievement, viewing it as a confirmation of the country’s prominent role in international cybersecurity and its commitment to Vision 2030, the kingdom’s ambitious economic and social reform plan.
Al-Aiban specifically credited the continuous guidance of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasizing that his vision has positioned Saudi Arabia as a global model across various sectors.
He emphasized the strategic development of the cybersecurity sector, aligned with Vision 2030, which prioritizes both security and industry growth, with a focus on both domestic and international efforts. According to Al-Aiban, this “Saudi model” has established the kingdom as a pioneer in the field, attracting international attention.
The NCA, established as the central cybersecurity authority, is backed by the technical expertise of the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE). The Saudi Press Agency reported that the NCA’s commitment to international collaboration is further underscored by its participation in cybersecurity exercises with over 40 countries.
At the domestic level, the NCA prioritizes cybersecurity through regulatory implementation, partnerships with industry stakeholders, and the launch of targeted initiatives.
