QFZ and Samsung C&T collaborate on solar, bioproducts, and digital infrastructure initiatives

The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) has partnered with Samsung C&T Corporation on a series of innovation-driven, sustainability-focused projects across Qatar’s Free Zones. The agreement is part of the two parties’ long-standing collaboration aimed at accelerating green investment in key sectors within Qatar and the broader region.
Under the terms of the agreement, QFZ and Samsung C&T will jointly implement five major projects, including a regional Competency Center in Solar Technologies, a 285-megawatt ground-mounted solar farm, rooftop solar solutions for off-grid use, a low-carbon bioproducts facility, and an advanced digital infrastructure initiative.
The solar Competency Center will be a regional hub for solar innovation, backed by global engineering expertise. Meanwhile, the renewable energy projects—both large-scale and decentralized—will help power QFZ’s business ecosystem and reinforce Qatar’s growing reputation as a regional leader in sustainability.
The planned facilities across Ras Bufontas and Umm Alhoul Free Zones will leverage Qatar’s strategic location and infrastructure to serve both local and regional markets.
Speaking at the signing, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani said: “This agreement with Samsung C&T is a defining moment in our mission to transform Qatar into a global platform for sustainable innovation and advanced technologies.”
He added, “Through initiatives spanning green energy, digital infrastructure, and bio-industrial solutions, we are creating the foundations of a resilient, diversified economy powered by knowledge, clean technology, and global collaboration.”
Samsung C&T President and CEO Se Chul Oh echoed the sentiment: “It is a privilege to be part of today’s momentous occasion, marking the signing of this important agreement. Samsung C&T Corporation has been actively engaged in the Qatari market for many years, where we have successfully delivered some of the country’s most significant projects in power, infrastructure, and renewable energy.”
