Kuwait launches national ‘Kuwait Skills’ program with Microsoft to train citizens in AI and cloud technologies
The program aims to train more than 30,000 employees, 4,000 technical specialists, and 350 leaders in AI and cloud technologies
Kuwait has launched a national workforce development initiative aimed at equipping citizens with skills in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and Microsoft Copilot tools, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s digital capabilities.
The “Kuwait Skills” program, developed in partnership with Microsoft and the Central Agency for Information Technology, is designed to support human capital development in line with the state’s “New Kuwait 2035” strategy, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
The initiative builds on Microsoft’s announcement earlier this year to establish an AI-enabled Azure cloud region in Kuwait — a move expected to enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure and support its goal of becoming a regional technology hub.
Omar Al-Omar, Minister of State for Communications Affairs, stated that the program underscores the government’s commitment to developing a comprehensive digital ecosystem that enhances public-sector performance and fosters sustainable, innovation-driven growth. Empowering Kuwaitis with advanced technology skills, he added, is central to strengthening the country’s position in the digital economy, according to KUNA.
Al-Omar encouraged government entities to leverage the program to build professional capabilities and advance the country’s digital transformation efforts.
Microsoft’s Regional General Manager for the Middle East, Charles Nahas, stated that the initiative aims to train over 30,000 employees, 4,000 technical professionals, and 350 leaders in AI and cloud technologies. He added that it will also support more than 100,000 users in adopting Copilot tools through a newly established Center of Excellence in partnership with CAIT.
Nahas noted that the initiative goes beyond skills training by offering access to global education programs, industry certifications, and career development pathways. The partnership, he said, is designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen cybersecurity, and drive growth across Kuwait’s digital economy in both the public and private sectors.
Progress will be tracked through quarterly reports measuring training outcomes and advancements in national digital capabilities.
