Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 drives manufacturing growth as industrial facilities rise by 60%
The number of industrial establishments in the kingdom surged from 7,206 in 2016 to 11,549 in 2023.
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 has served as a powerful catalyst for industrial growth. Since its launch in 2016, the number of industrial facilities has surged by an impressive 60%, highlighting the nation’s dedication to economic diversification and its ambition to establish itself as a global manufacturing powerhouse.
The National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP) reported a remarkable rise in the number of industrial establishments in Saudi Arabia, from 7,206 in 2016 to 11,549 in 2023.
Riyadh currently has the highest number of factories (4,502), followed by the Eastern Province (2,618) and Makkah (2,209). This surge in manufacturing activity aligns closely with the National Industrial Strategy, which Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman unveiled in 2022.
The strategy aims to significantly expand Saudi Arabia’s industrial sector, targeting around 36,000 factories by 2035. It will focus on 12 sub-sectors and attract investments totaling approximately $266 billion.
In 2023, the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP) reported the issuance of 1,379 industrial licenses, with investments exceeding $21.5 billion. Production began in 1,058 factories, with commitments reaching nearly $12 billion.
These new permits span 25 industrial activities, with food processing leading at 244 licenses, followed by 176 for non-metallic mineral goods manufacturing and 165 for formed metal production. Additionally, 123 licenses were issued for rubber and plastic products manufacturing.
Since the NIDLP’s launch in 2019, Saudi Arabia has established itself as a significant global player in energy, mining, industry, and logistics, advancing economic diversification.
The kingdom is generating diverse job opportunities and securing a sustainable future by leveraging its strategic position as a global trade hub and abundant natural resources. The NIDLP continues to play a crucial role in reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s success on the global stage.
