EWEC launches reduced energy tariff initiative to boost industrial growth across four emirates
The program offers reduced energy consumption tariffs for businesses operating in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Umm Al Qaiwain.
Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has started accepting applications for a new initiative to boost industrial growth across four emirates. The program offers reduced energy consumption tariffs for industrial and technological businesses in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman, and Umm Al Qaiwain.
Launched under the Industrial Development Council, chaired by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the initiative represents a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), and EWEC. It aims to improve the business environment and boost manufacturing in the targeted emirates.
The initiative, announced during the Make it in the Emirates Forum in May 2024, aligns with the UAE’s National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology. EWEC is currently processing 10 applications and plans to onboard 50 industrial companies within two years.
In addition to financial savings, the program seeks to enhance price competitiveness for industrial companies in domestic and international markets. This is expected to stimulate the development of new industrial projects in the four emirates.
The new system offers additional incentives, including flexible options for installation and network connection fees. Customers can either spread these costs over their monthly bills or make an upfront payment at a 20% discount compared to standard installation charges.
Furthermore, customers in this category are exempt from insurance fees and will not incur extra charges for meter usage.
Omar Al Suwaidi, Under-Secretary of MoIAT, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology and Operation 300bn. He highlighted the program’s role in fostering entrepreneurship and supporting sustainable industrial development.
The initiative supports the UAE’s environmental goals, including the Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmap and the Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. It aligns with the Federal Energy Management Regulation in Industrial Facilities, which aims to reduce energy consumption and emissions.
Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, stated that the new tariff structure promotes sustainable development and enhances the UAE’s economic competitiveness by providing lower energy prices to the industrial and technology sectors.
Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EWEC, expressed the company’s pride in contributing to the growth of the industrial sector.
“The initiative reflects our commitment to providing innovative and efficient energy solutions that contribute to reducing operating costs in the industrial sector and enhancing its competitive capabilities,” he added.
