Egypt seeks Indian investment in renewable energy, autos, pharmaceuticals
The meeting focused on expanding industrial cooperation and investment in renewable energy, food, automotive, pharmaceutical and electronics sectors.
Egypt is seeking to attract more Indian manufacturers and industrial developers as it looks to deepen industrial cooperation and investment ties with India, Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said during a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral industrial cooperation and identifying investment opportunities across priority sectors, including renewable energy, food processing, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and electronics.
Hashem said Egypt aims to translate its strong political and economic relationship with India into tangible industrial projects by strengthening private-sector collaboration and activating the Egyptian-Indian Business Council.
“We welcome both large and medium-sized Indian companies to establish operations in Egypt,” the minister said, adding that the country hopes to leverage India’s industrial technology expertise to develop local workforce capabilities and strengthen industrial integration between the two nations.
He highlighted Egypt’s strategic location, extensive network of trade agreements, skilled workforce, and government investment incentives as key advantages for Indian investors.
Hashem also called for closer coordination between the Ministry of Industry and the Indian Embassy to attract manufacturers to establish production facilities in Egypt and use the country as a regional manufacturing and export hub serving neighboring markets and Africa.
He said successful Indian investments could encourage more companies to enter the Egyptian market. The minister also proposed attracting Indian industrial developers to establish new industrial zones under Egypt’s industrial developer model, helping meet growing demand for fully serviced industrial land.
Reddy said Indian companies view Egypt as a strategic partner and regional hub for manufacturing, exports, and investment, citing its strategic location and economic reforms as key drivers of investor confidence.
He highlighted Indian investments, including TCI Sanmar Chemicals, as examples of the expanding industrial partnership between the two countries.
The ambassador also invited Hashem to attend the BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting and proposed holding a roundtable with Indian industrial companies to discuss investment opportunities in Egypt and the incentives available for establishing or expanding industrial operations.
