The UAE launched the first wave of AI agents to improve government services, as the country advances plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence across the public sector.

The announcement was made by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, following the government’s national retreat in Abu Dhabi, attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and senior government officials.

Al Maktoum said the AI tools would initially be deployed across tax auditing, procurement, customer happiness, and technical support functions. The launch marks a step toward the UAE’s goal of delivering half of all government services through agentic AI within the next two years.

According to Al Maktoum, more than 400 officials have been tasked with overseeing the strategy and supporting the country’s efforts to become a global leader in AI-powered government systems.

The initiative centers on the use of AI agents to reshape public service delivery.

Procurement AI agents are expected to support purchasing processes by streamlining sourcing procedures, improving workflows, and increasing operational efficiency. The tax auditing AI agent is designed to strengthen data verification and review processes, improving compliance and accelerating audits.

The customer happiness AI agent will provide service teams with faster access to information, improving response times, while the technical support AI agent will assist IT teams in managing services and resolving system issues more efficiently.

During the retreat, Al Maktoum said the project represented more than a government initiative, describing it as a model intended to shape future public sector operations globally.

Al Nahyan said the UAE was working to develop a new model for future governments by using technology to improve the quality of life and strengthen the country’s leadership in artificial intelligence.

The launch follows a separate announcement by the UAE Cabinet earlier this week outlining plans to train 80,000 government employees, from ministers to junior staff, in the use of AI agents.

The program will focus on developing AI capabilities across leadership, technical expertise, specialist roles, and the wider workforce, while also providing additional support for trainers. A dedicated digital platform powered by agentic AI will also be introduced to deliver personalized learning programs for federal employees.
