G42, in partnership with UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Italian helmet manufacturer MET, has launched what it describes as the world’s first cycling helmet powered by generative AI.

The helmet debuted during the ongoing Tour de France, worn by riders from UAE Team Emirates-XRG.

The AI-enhanced helmet marks a step toward integrating emerging technologies into professional cycling. According to G42 and its partners, the project explores the practical use of artificial intelligence in sports, focusing on performance, innovation, and user engagement.

Andrew Jackson, Chief AI Officer at G42, said the collaboration with a professional cycling team provides a platform to study how AI can be applied in competitive settings.

He said the initiative aims to test AI’s potential in equipment design and data-driven performance support.

Faheem Ahamed, Chief Marketing Officer at G42, said the project also aims to introduce new ways for fans to connect with the sport and the team by using technology to enhance engagement and experience.

Mauro Gianetti, CEO and Team Principal of UAE Team Emirates-XRG, confirmed that G42 is the team’s official AI partner. He said both sides are working on broader applications of AI in cycling, including performance analysis, race strategy, and training optimization. Fan engagement is also a key focus, he added.

The launch highlights a growing trend among professional sports teams to explore how AI and other advanced technologies can support athlete performance, strengthen operations, and improve global fan interaction.
