Data centers consume a lot of energy. And as energy consumption increases, data center operators will need to transition to 100% renewable energy use. Transitioning to renewable energy use is an important, but not easily achieved, goal. But thankfully, UAE has been taking the lead. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has inaugurated the green data center of Moro Hub through its digital arm, Digital DEWA.

Recognized as the world’s largest solar-powered data center by the Guinness World Records, the facility is located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world.

The facility’s integrated solutions are designed to provide services in digital transformation, cloud and hosting services, cybersecurity, smart cities, IoT services, and Moro Hub services supported by ChatGPT technology.

“The new data center reflects our commitment to support the development of a sustainable economy and our efforts to transform Dubai into a global green economy hub. Moro Hub has always been a front-runner in promoting digital transformation and sustainability as well as enhancing its integrated solutions to help organizations and companies reach net-zero carbon emissions,” said Saeed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive of DEWA.

Spread over 16,000 square meters, the data center has a capacity exceeding 100 megawatts. Global corporations, including Dell Technologies, Microsoft, and Huawei, are among the providers of solutions in the new green data center.

Further, VMWare, Emirates NBD, the Digital Dubai Authority, and Dubai Islamic Bank are some of Moro Hub’s most important technology partners and clients.

“The project is a bright sign in Dubai’s journey towards a sustainable future that takes into account environmental needs,” said Hamad Al Mansoori, director general of Digital Dubai.
