Amidst industries’ efforts to transition towards a low-carbon economy, the upcoming Dubai Airshow 2023 will feature sustainability solutions within the aviation sector.

With the upcoming United Nation’s COP28 set in Dubai later this year, industry stakeholders are showcasing their latest innovations and solutions toward net zero emissions, discussing potential collaborations, and gaining new insights.

The aviation industry contributes approximately 2-3% of all global CO2 emissions. Still, with an increase in passenger demand, this could rise to 25%-30% by 2050 if no actions are taken, according to a new report by Frost & Sullivan.

Several initiatives have been introduced in the Middle East to alleviate its impact.

In May, Masdar and Airbus signed an agreement to foster the expansion and advancement of the worldwide sustainable aviation fuel market. In addition, these two entities will work together on initiatives related to green hydrogen and direct air capture technologies.

In June, Qatar Airways and Shell signed a deal to source 3,000 metric tonnes of neat sustainable aviation fuel at Amsterdam Schipol Airport. It is marked as the first MEA carrier to obtain considerable SAF in Europe beyond government SAF mandates.

Exhibitors at the airshow aim to showcase the latest technologies and innovations to help the aviation sector achieve global net zero emissions targets.

Industry experts aim to discuss steps for creating a sustainable aerospace ecosystem, covering some of the most pressing sustainable challenges and opportunities on key topics, including hydrogen-powered aviation, SAF, COP28 predictions, efficient engines, streaming operations, and hybrid and electric aircraft.
