The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai organized a briefing session as part of their efforts to advance their religious tourism projects, during which they discussed an ongoing project.

Dubai unveiled its plan to construct an underwater floating mosque estimated to cost nearly $15 million. The design entails one-half of the structure being above water, housing a coffee shop and seating areas, while the remaining half will be submerged beneath the water’s surface.

This innovative mosque will be a global first, combining both floating and underwater elements. It will comprise three floors, with the underwater deck designated as the prayer area. This unique space will accommodate approximately 50 to 75 worshippers who will have the opportunity to perform their prayers underwater. Additionally, ablution facilities and washrooms will be conveniently located on the lower level.

Construction is set to begin soon, although the precise location of the mosque remains undisclosed to the public. 

According to Ahmed Khalfan Al Mansouri, Advisor for Cultural Communication at IACAD, the mosque will be close to the shore, with a bridge connecting it to the mainland, allowing worshippers easy access.

Visitors to the mosque will be expected to observe a modest dress code and adhere to Islamic traditions and customs.
