The United Arab Emirates is establishing itself as a global infrastructure powerhouse, demonstrating a rapid improvement in infrastructure quality and highlighting its steadfast commitment to progress and development.

The UAE has significantly improved infrastructure quality, climbing four positions to secure the esteemed fourth place in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) 2023 competitiveness report.

This accomplishment reflects a decade-long commitment to infrastructure development, marked by an investment of over $3.5 billion in 258 essential projects over the past 10 years.

The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to infrastructure development, with an additional $2.45 billion allocated for 127 projects over the next five years. This commitment is reflected in the recently approved federal budget for the 2024-2026 roadmap, allocating approximately $700,000, or 4% of the total general budget, to infrastructure and economic resources.

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, attributes this success to the government’s unwavering support: “Following the directives of our wise leadership, the Ministry is keen to launch initiatives and projects that support the UAE’s development and competitiveness.”

He further underscores the strategic priority of advancing infrastructure and developing key arterial roads to improve citizens’ quality of life and stimulate the national economy.

The collaborative effort behind this achievement is noteworthy, with Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, acknowledging the valuable contributions of the Ministry’s partners. She says, “Infrastructure in the UAE is considered a leading global model. The country has developed its infrastructure according to the best international standards and specifications.”

The UAE’s ambitious vision extends beyond mere infrastructure development. Ahli highlights the government’s focus on “ensuring integrated technological excellence for airports, seaports, the urban road network, tourist sites, hotels, and all types of transportation, in addition to the quality of electricity, communications, and all public services and facilities to provide the necessities of a decent life for all citizens and ensure their social and economic security.”
