Dubai unveils $34.8 billion plan for world’s largest airport terminal
The terminal has a projected capacity of 260 million passengers
Dubai’s ambitious vision for the future of aviation has taken a significant leap forward with the approval of a strategic plan for the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP). At the heart of this plan is constructing a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, slated to become the world’s largest upon completion.
The project, expected to require an investment of $34.8 billion, is in line with the strategic vision of the Dubai Aviation Corporation to elevate Al Maktoum International Airport into a dominant force in global aviation. Once completed, the new terminal is projected to accommodate up to 260 million passengers annually, a fivefold increase over Dubai International Airport.
Sheikh Mohammed, alongside Dubai’s Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, visited the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects to assess the plans for the new terminal. Emphasizing its significance, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that the terminal represents a crucial component of the Dubai Aviation Corporation’s strategic vision.
In addition to its impressive scale, the project will incorporate state-of-the-art features. Al Maktoum International Airport will feature 400 aircraft gates, five parallel runways, and the integration of innovative aviation technologies previously unseen in the industry.
Sheikh Mohammed envisions the development of an entire city around the airport within Dubai South. This ambitious project is expected to accommodate a million residents and attract top logistics and air transport companies, further solidifying Dubai’s position as a global aviation hub.
“We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn. Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global center,” he added.
“It is expected that the first phase of the project will be ready within a period of 10 years, with a capacity to accommodate 150 million passengers annually,” Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed stated.
