The UAE is making significant strides towards becoming a leading global hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to Omar Sultan AlOlama, the country’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.

Speaking at the first-ever AI Retreat held in Dubai, AlOlama highlighted the government’s collaborative efforts with the private sector in implementing various initiatives to integrate AI across government operations and the social fabric and emphasized the UAE’s ambitious vision, which includes establishing Dubai as a leader in the global AI conversation. This vision is reflected in the recent appointment of 22 Chief AI officers across government departments.

AlOlama also pointed to the government’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce. The One Million Proficient Engineers initiative aims to equip individuals with the skills necessary to drive AI development in the UAE. He underscored the importance of talent, noting the UAE’s ranking as third globally in attracting AI talent relative to its population size.

The minister outlined a long-term vision for AI implementation in Dubai, stating, “AI is not a future vision; it is our reality now… with AI, we are looking at implementing our AI vision for the next 185 years, starting today.” 

Minister emphasized the contribution of the private sector as a key AI enabler in Dubai, and urged it to leverage Dubai’s supportive AI investment and development environment.

The inaugural AI Retreat served as a platform for dialogue on key challenges and opportunities related to AI. Participants discussed policy, governance, talent development, infrastructure, and data centers. The event fostered collaboration between the public and private sectors as they work together to harness the power of AI for Dubai’s future.
