Working to position itself as an entertainment hub, much like its neighbors, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Oman announced plans to establish a film city with an investment of $31.2 million.Â
Located in Khazaen, Barka, the project aims to create over 100 jobs for Omanis in its first year and offer services for film production, spanning from pre-production phases to post-production.Â
Nader al Rawahi, representing the Ministry in the Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit, said the film city not only aims to enhance the local film industry but also attracts international productions.
The project is part of a larger strategy to enhance the sultanate’s cultural and innovative industries. Other initiatives include Ebdaa Park, a creative park in Muscat designed to celebrate and showcase Omani talent across various art forms. It is expected to see an investment worth $5.7 million.
Another initiative, the Yaj Project, collaborates with an Italian company and will invest $2.9 million to attract international conferences and exhibitions to Oman.Â
These strategic investments in creative and cultural infrastructure are expected to boost its cultural footprint and economic growth.
