A Project Management Institute (PMI) report noted that early adoption of generative AI (GenAI) across the MENA region is expected to increase productivity and efficiency. 

The report revealed that high GenAI adopters, also known as trailblazers, provide performance enhancements, advancements in GenAI adoption, and business transformation.

On the organization’s end, encouraging GenAI adoption results in increased use among project professionals. While trailblazers are more productive (93%), low adopters, or explorers, fall short (58%). Problem-solving skills through using GenAI are also high among trailblazers (89%) as opposed to explorers (46%.)

With GenAI, high adopters strengthen their interpersonal skills, collaboration (83% of trailblazers and 32% of explorers), and creativity (84% and 44%, respectively.)

Meanwhile, high adopters witness project management improvements via GenAI usage, including project scope (87% trailblazers and 34% explorers), scheduling (85% and 46%), cost (85% versus 42%), and quality management (91% versus 40%.)

“Our research shows that GenAI trailblazers know how to maximize adoption to elevate their performance, navigate complex work, and usher in GenAI across their teams. They stand out from their peers for their innovative leadership,” said Pierre Le Manh, PMP, President & Chief Executive Officer of PMI.

Trailblazers are mastering the critical skill of prompt engineering, and they stand out because they use GenAI for more complex tasks, such as data analysis, planning, and risk management. This makes them three times more likely to strengthen their skills with GenAI (36%) than explorers (12%.)

“A key insight from the report is that it’s much harder to accelerate adoption without organizational support. Trailblazers are ten times more likely to work for organizations that empower them to use GenAI. It’s these forward-thinking organizations and their trailblazing project professionals who are seizing this moment and are ready to lead the GenAI revolution,” added Pierre Le Manh.
