UAE launches AI charter to lead in artificial intelligence by 2031
The charter will focus on safety, privacy, and the integration of advanced AI models.
To further boost its artificial intelligence adoption while ensuring the technology is deployed safely, the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office has launched the Charter for the Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence in the UAE.
The move aligns with the objectives of the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI), which aims to position the Gulf state as a leading AI nation by 2031. It also supports the UAE Centennial 2071, which seeks to create new economic, educational, and social opportunities for citizens, governments, and businesses, potentially generating up to $91.2 billion in additional growth.
The new charter aims to foster an environment that upholds the highest safety and privacy standards while increasing societal trust in technological applications.
It will establish principles and frameworks for applying advanced AI models and emphasize strengthening human and machine relationships.
The principles emphasize safety and fairness to create an equitable environment for society. They ensure the responsible development of AI technologies in accordance with inclusivity and accessibility guidelines.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated that the UAE government aims to become a global leader in AI by developing digital infrastructure and enhancing an integrated system that employs AI across all vital sectors. The charter guarantees the highest levels of protection for the rights of individuals, users, and communities.
