Abu Dhabi expands freelancer license with 30 new activities to boost entrepreneurship
This brings the total number of activities to 100 for the freelancer license.
In a move to further foster the UAE’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and position Abu Dhabi as a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy, the Abu Dhabi Business Centre at the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has added 30 new activities to its Freelancer License, bringing the total to 100. In 2023, ADDED issued 1,013 freelancer licenses, highlighting the growing interest in establishing and operating businesses among individuals.
The newly added activities include artificial intelligence (AI) development, electronic equipment and devices systems and software design, oil and natural gas production, software design, and data classification and analysis services. The expansion also features development and innovation in computer systems and programs, production models through 3D imaging, and support and services for online players.
Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, Executive Director at Abu Dhabi Business Center (ADBC,) said, “This step reflects our eagerness to expand the range of business activities available to entrepreneurs in Abu Dhabi while responding to freelancers’ aspirations, thus enhancing their effective contribution to cementing a strong, resilient, and diversified economy.”
He added, “Over the past year, the freelancer license has witnessed a surge in interest from individuals seeking to establish and operate their businesses. We remain committed to continuing our efforts to provide a supportive and vibrant environment for innovation, solidifying Abu Dhabi’s position as a preferred destination for talents, businesses, and investments.”
To obtain the license, applicants must demonstrate experience in a specific field or industry or possess relevant academic or professional credentials.
