ADQ partners with NEMA to tackle food waste across UAE
The two will explore joint initiatives to reduce food loss across the entire value chain.
Abu Dhabi wealth fund ADQ has partnered with the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative (NEMA) to address food waste and loss across the entire value chain, from production to consumption. This multi-year agreement aims to bolster the resilience of the local food system and strengthen ADQ’s investments in the food and agriculture sector.
Additionally, the collaboration supports Ne’ma’s goal of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, which targets a 50% reduction in food loss and waste by 2030.
Mansour Al Mulla, Deputy Group CEO at ADQ, said, “As a major investor in the local food and agriculture sector, we believe it is critical to ensure that enabling and upscaling the production of adequate, affordable, and nutritious food goes alongside the preservation of food as a precious natural resource.”
The agreement will see ADQ and Ne’ma collaborate on joint initiatives to reduce food loss across the entire value chain and promote responsible consumption habits. Additionally, Ne’ma will provide ADQ with data to help identify food loss hotspots and systemic gaps, enabling targeted solutions.
Khuloud Al Nuwais, Chief Sustainability Officer at Emirates Foundation and Secretary-General of the Ne’ma Committee, stated, “This partnership with ADQ underscores the critical role of public-private sector collaboration in meeting the UAE’s ambitious goal to halve food loss and waste by 2030 in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3.
Through these partnerships, we are harnessing the most innovative solutions to transform our food systems, ensuring that safeguarding our food resources remains central to our national food security strategy. By joining forces, we maximize our efforts and create lasting impacts for our communities and our planet.”
