How Dubai’s gaming visa is attracting global talent to the UAE
The UAE’s gaming market revenue is expected to reach nearly $492 million by 2027.
The United Arab Emirates is rapidly becoming a significant player in the electronic gaming and esports industry. With ambitious government initiatives and strategic partnerships, the country aims to become a premier gaming hub by 2033.
A report by Statista’s Insights projects significant growth in the UAE’s gaming market. The number of players and revenue are expected to surge, reaching nearly $492 million by 2027. The sector is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.88%, with the number of video game users projected to reach 1.7 million by 2027. In response, Dubai has launched the “Programme for Gaming 2033,” aiming to position the emirate among the top 10 global gaming hubs by 2033.
The initiative focuses on developing talent, content, and technology to strengthen the UAE’s digital economy. Its goal is to contribute $1 billion to Dubai’s GDP by 2033.
As part of this effort, Dubai has introduced the “Dubai Gaming Visa” to attract talent and entrepreneurs while partnering with global companies and academic institutions. Dubai will also host the Games of the Future 2025, which is expected to draw thousands of esports professionals and enthusiasts from nearly 100 countries. The aim is to create up to 30,000 new jobs in the gaming sector by 2033.
Abu Dhabi’s gaming ecosystem, comprising over 70 content-creating companies, is being strengthened by strategic collaborations. Recently, ADIO partnered with Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game companies, to enhance its regional development and distribution operations.
Also, a gaming company in Abu Dhabi is set to invest over $280 million in constructing a private island dedicated to unique gaming experiences.
The project will feature a parachute jump inspired by PUBG, a high-end training facility for professional gamers, and an arena for major esports events. The sector is also gaining momentum in other emirates. In July, Abu Dhabi hosted the region’s largest collegiate esports competition in partnership with the UAE Esports Federation and MENA Tech Entertainment.
Similarly, Sharjah’s second edition of the Shams Gaming Esports Championship attracted gaming enthusiasts and investors, showcasing the industry’s rapid growth across the UAE.
