The AI policy is designed around six core principles, including, advancement, cooperation, community, ethics, sustainability and security.
The UAE Cabinet, chaired by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has recently approved the country’s official stance on artificial intelligence (AI) policy at the global level.
The policy, developed by the Office of the Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology and the Office of the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, represents a significant step within the UAE’s broader foreign policy framework. It aims to address the complex challenges AI poses on a global scale.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for AI, said, “The UAE has become a significant player in the global governance of artificial intelligence, actively contributing to international policy discussions and helping define the standards and frameworks that will shape the future of AI.”
He added that with this policy in place, the UAE aims to bolster its global position in AI and ensure that technological advancements are aligned with society’s well-being.
Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, said, “By aligning the country’s foreign policy with global artificial intelligence standards, we enable local stakeholders, including private enterprises, research institutions, and others, to tackle the challenges of artificial intelligence on an international scale.”
The AI policy is built on six core principles: advancement, cooperation, community, ethics, sustainability, and security. Additionally, it aims to leverage AI for economic diversification and innovation while promoting the development of technological solutions.
The UAE’s approach to the AI policy emphasizes active participation in international AI forums, advocating for transparency and the integration of checkpoints within AI tools. It also empowers governments to enforce ethical standards and implement accountability measures.
The UAE’s AI policy further promotes the establishment of international alliances to govern, secure, and develop AI systems. It supports the implementation of international regulations that hold nations accountable for AI tools that may cause harm or destabilization, thereby enhancing AI security, privacy protection, and data safety.
