The UAE has unveiled the world’s first ChatGPT-powered platform tailored specifically for the agricultural sector, an initiative leveraging AI to tackle global farming challenges.

Announced at COP29 in Baku by Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Head of the International Affairs Office in the UAE Presidential Court, the platform, named “CHAG” (Chat + Ag), is built on over 50 years of agricultural research. CHAG aims to provide farmers worldwide with actionable, data-driven insights to enhance productivity and resilience.

Developed in partnership with AIM for Scale and the Gates Foundation, the platform delivers personalized recommendations on optimal planting and harvesting times and offers strategies to help farmers adapt to unpredictable weather patterns. Its focus on extreme climates makes it particularly valuable for farmers operating in challenging conditions.

Almheiri highlighted CHAG’s ability to transform complex climate forecasts into practical, easy-to-implement advice for farmers, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to advancing social innovation through AI.

“Instead of providing a general forecast, we are translating all this into something actionable for farmers with the power of AI,” said Celeste Saulo, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organisation.

The UAE’s strategic emphasis on harnessing AI and technology to support underserved communities was showcased at the UAE Pavilion during COP29.

CHAG exemplifies the UAE’s holistic approach, leveraging public-private partnerships to boost agricultural resilience and enhance crop productivity globally.
