Building on its sustainability agenda, the UAE has launched the fifth season of its “World’s Coolest Winter” campaign, which is this year themed “Green Tourism.”

This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Economy, the National Agricultural Centre, and local tourism authorities, aims to promote agritourism and encourage visitors to explore the country’s diverse landscapes, from islands and beaches to mountains and nature reserves.

This year’s focus on green tourism emphasizes environmental awareness and sustainable exploration of the UAE’s natural beauty, from islands and beaches to mountains and nature reserves.

Supported by a robust legal framework protecting natural resources and biodiversity, the campaign reflects the UAE’s dedication to eco-tourism, as defined by the UN, promoting nature-based travel with minimal environmental impact.

The UAE’s sustainability agenda integrates advanced technologies to cut carbon emissions, supporting its 2050 climate neutrality goals.

Ranked 18th globally in the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index, the nation is steadily advancing its “UAE Tourism Strategy 2031” to solidify its position as a leading global destination.

Protected areas, including marine and wildlife reserves, enhance eco-tourism by preserving biodiversity and environmental balance.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment’s “UAE’s Natural Wonders” project highlights the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its natural heritage.

Other Emirates are also driving sustainability. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism enforces sustainable guidelines, carbon measurement systems, and energy audits for hotels. Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism has launched 50 initiatives, including desert reserves and eco-friendly establishments. Sharjah’s Commerce and Tourism Development Authority supports eco-friendly policies, emphasizing responsible resource management to benefit both the environment and communities.
