As Kuwait embarks on large-scale infrastructure projects to expand its global commercial presence, sectors such as construction are driving an increase in industrial waste. To address this growing concern, the GCC nation has commissioned the construction of multiple recycling plants across the country.

These plants will be a collaborative effort between local and international developers, with the first phase of construction set to begin in 2025. According to the Arabic-language daily Alqabas, the Kuwaiti cabinet has approved a plan for the municipality to build large recycling facilities capable of processing liquid and solid waste.

The initiative is a response to a significant rise in waste production over the past 20 years, driven by development and construction projects. The report reveals that Kuwait generates over 14,000 tonnes of waste daily, while the existing recycling facilities can only process 2,000 to 2,500 tonnes daily.
