The Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER) hosted an international press conference at the CEVISAMA trade fair, showcasing industry trends and the latest design innovations from Spanish tile companies. Supported by ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, the event also marked the presentation of the 23rd Tile of Spain Architecture and Interior Design Awards, celebrating excellence in the field.

ASCER President Vicente Nomdedeu Lluesma provided a provisional outlook on the sector’s performance in 2024, noting slight growth in production, domestic sales, and employment despite persistent market challenges. The industry recorded a total turnover of over $5 billion, reflecting a modest 0.9% year-on-year decline. While international markets remained sluggish, with exports to 186 countries falling 2.4% to $3.6 billion, domestic sales showed resilience, growing 3.1% to $1.4 billion.

Europe continues to be a key market for Tile of Spain, with six European countries among its top ten export destinations, making up 51.1% of total exports. The United States remained the leading individual market, with sales reaching $493 million, accounting for 13.5% of total exports.

“A significant part of our business is generated in highly demanding markets, where customers seek products with high levels of innovation, design, and quality,” Nomdedeu emphasized, highlighting the value of Spanish ceramics in mature markets.

He also reinforced the industry’s “The Secret Ingredient” campaign, highlighting the focus on quality, environmental responsibility, and craftsmanship that set Spanish ceramic tiles apart.

Lutzía Ortiz and Ana Benavente from the Institute of Ceramic Technology’s (ITC) Trends Observatory presented the latest design trends showcased by Tile of Spain companies at CEVISAMA, focusing on how Spanish tiles meet evolving consumer needs through design, versatility, and functionality.

The press conference concluded with the 23rd edition of the Tile of Spain Architecture and Interior Design Awards, celebrating outstanding architectural and interior design projects that incorporate Spanish ceramic tiles. The event was also supported by the Generalitat Valenciana’s Regional Ministry of the Treasury and the Economy.
