MBRSC launches Etihad-SAT, UAE’s first SAR imaging satellite
The satellite was developed in collaboration with South Korea’s Satrec Initiative, with MBRSC engineers spearheading its design and manufacturing.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has successfully launched Etihad-SAT, its first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Carried into orbit aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, the satellite marks a major advancement in the UAE’s space capabilities.
“The UAE is steadily advancing towards strengthening its position among the leading nations in space science and technology, guided by the vision of our leadership and its continuous support for this vital sector,” said Talal Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Vice President of MBRSC.
He highlighted Etihad-SAT as a strategic advancement in Earth observation, providing crucial data to support sustainable development.
Hamad Obaid AlMansoori, Chairman of MBRSC, described the launch as a milestone in the UAE’s space journey, reflecting its commitment to innovation and technological advancement. Ee-Eul Kim, CEO & President of Satrec Initiative, congratulated the UAE on the successful mission, underscoring the significance of global partnerships in advancing space exploration.
