Uber, WeRide, and Dubai’s RTA are collaborating to bring autonomous vehicles to the city, advancing urban mobility.

Details of the upcoming AV pilot program and its next phases will be revealed in the coming months, but this partnership marks a significant step toward integrating autonomous vehicles into Dubai’s transportation network.

With WeRide as the first technology partner, the collaboration sets the stage for a reliable AV experience in the city. Under the agreement, Uber and RTA will launch pilot programs leveraging Uber’s technology to connect riders with AVs, ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience.

The partnership will also explore data insights, safety protocols, and regulatory frameworks to facilitate Dubai’s transition to autonomous mobility.

In July 2023, WeRide became the first AV provider to secure the UAE’s national license for operating self-driving vehicles on public roads. Its Dubai launch builds on the successful commercial deployment of WeRide AVs on Uber’s platform in Abu Dhabi in December 2024.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA stated, “This partnership with Uber, starting with WeRide as the technology partner, represents a crucial step in advancing Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to transform 25% of all journeys in the city into autonomous trips across various transport modes by 2030.”

Al Tayer further commented, “This collaboration underscores RTA’s commitment to engaging with global technology leaders and forms part of a series of autonomous mobility trials launched in 2016, which have grown in diversity over the past years.”
