Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to launch Middle East’s first heavy-ion therapy facility
The project will begin construction in 2026 on the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi campus, next to the newly opened Fatima bint Mubarak Center.

M42, an AI-powered global health company, announced that its affiliate, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, will establish the Middle East’s first heavy-ion therapy facility in the emirate.
The project, aimed at providing new hope for cancer patients across the region, is set to break ground in 2026 on the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi campus, adjacent to the recently launched Fatima bint Mubarak Center.
The facility will feature advanced technology, including a treatment room with a compact rotating gantry equipped with superconducting magnets and another room with a horizontally fixed beam, which will utilize high-speed scanning irradiation for precise therapy.
Together with the Fatima bint Mubarak Center, it will further cement Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s leadership in oncology innovation and personalized cancer care.
The milestone project stems from a strategic partnership between M42 and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS), combining healthcare innovation with cutting-edge particle therapy technologies.
It was announced during Abu Dhabi Global Health Week 2025, an initiative led by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi to shape the future of healthcare and well-being.
The heavy-ion therapy center will be the only one within a five-hour flight radius of the UAE, providing patients across the region access to one of the most advanced cancer treatments available.
Heavy-ion therapy, known for its unprecedented precision and effectiveness in targeting tumors, will significantly expand advanced care options in the Middle East.
Globally, only 15 centers currently offer heavy-ion radiotherapy. With this addition, Abu Dhabi is poised to become a global leader in next-generation oncology services.
