Oman is set to establish the world’s first commercial-scale liquid hydrogen corridor, connecting the Sultanate with the Netherlands and Germany.

According to a statement from the state-owned energy group OQ, the government-backed green hydrogen company Hydrom will lead upstream production efforts. These initiatives will align with national goals and integrate the corridor into Oman’s broader hydrogen strategy and infrastructure plans.

The statement added that OQ will be responsible for building the hydrogen production facility and the necessary storage and export infrastructure, playing a key role in ensuring a stable supply for the corridor.

The corridor will facilitate the export of liquid hydrogen that meets renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) standards. Shipments will depart from the Port of Duqm and arrive at the Port of Amsterdam, with further distribution to major logistics centers across Germany.

UAE-based ECOLOG will manage the maritime transport of the liquid hydrogen, utilizing vessels equipped with zero boil-off technology to maximize efficiency and minimize product loss.

On the European end, the corridor will be supported by regasification import terminals at the Port of Amsterdam. From there, hydrogen will be distributed to industrial users in both the Netherlands and Germany via a combination of gas pipelines, rail systems, and barge transport through the Dutch canal network.

So far, 22 international consortiums have been awarded large-scale green hydrogen projects and have started development in designated blocks across Duqm and Dhofar.

Hydrom is also preparing to launch its third land auction round later this month, focused on mid-scale projects, according to the statement.
