Indian PM Narendra Modi to visit Saudi Arabia to bolster trade, energy, and strategic ties
Trade between the two nations reached $43 billion in 2023–24, with Indian exports valued at $12 billion and imports at $31 billion.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Saudi Arabia this week to talk with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The talks will focus on strengthening trade, investment, and energy ties.
The two-day visit, scheduled for April 22–23, will also include discussions on strategic initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor and enhanced defense cooperation, according to the Indian Express.
Saudi Arabia is home to 2.6 million Indian workers, whose remittances accounted for nearly 7% of India’s total inflows in 2024, according to the Reserve Bank of India.
The Gulf kingdom remains a key energy supplier for India, delivering 33 million metric tons of crude oil in 2023–24—about 14% of India’s total crude imports. It was also India’s third-largest source of LPG, accounting for 18% of imports.
Bilateral trade reached $43 billion in 2023–24, with Indian exports totaling $12 billion and imports amounting to $31 billion. As of August 2023, Indian investments in Saudi Arabia stood at $3 billion, while Saudi investments in India reached $10 billion.
The leaders are also expected to review progress on the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor — a shipping and rail project connecting South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe — unveiled at the G20 summit in New Delhi in September 2023.
Modi’s visit comes ahead of an expected trip to Riyadh by U.S. President Donald Trump in mid-May. He previously visited Saudi Arabia in 2016 and 2019, while Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited New Delhi in 2019 and 2023.
