As global awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) continues to grow, the need for innovative research and inclusive approaches has never been greater. In response, the International Conference on Developments in Autism Research has announced the launch of the world’s first specialized scientific award dedicated solely to autism research.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to encourage the development of evidence-based approaches that improve the quality of life for individuals with ASD and their families, while providing an international platform to recognize outstanding scientific contributions in the field.

At the close of its third edition, the conference called for the use of AI in developing support programs for individuals with autism, expanding vocational and rehabilitation opportunities, and integrating applied behavior analysis (ABA) and relationship-focused approaches into educational frameworks.

Gratitude was extended to H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, for sponsoring the event for the third consecutive year. Attendees praised the UAE’s continued efforts to support people of determination and highlighted the impactful initiatives offered through the organization’s centers across Abu Dhabi.

Abdullah Abdul Ali Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organization, expressed pride in the conference’s success. “The conference stood out with its outcomes and recommendations, which will be worked on in the upcoming phase, marking the start of a new stage of joint efforts, harnessing knowledge for hope, and transforming challenges into success stories and achievements,” he stated.

Al Humaidan also revealed a proposal to establish a permanent scientific committee for autism to assess therapeutic and nutritional research, noting, “This step is important for documenting information, ensuring the credibility of initiatives, and supporting research in the field of autism.”

Professor Lisa Pratt, Executive Director of Fatima College of Health Sciences, thanked the event’s supporters: “I thank Zayed Higher Organization for their continuous contribution to empowering people of determination and for their essential role in the success of this conference.”

The conference concluded with a special piano performance by 22-year-old Mahmoud Hegazy, who lives with autism and expressed his gratitude through music after mastering the piano through three years of training.
