As the global media landscape rapidly evolves through digital technology, Qatar is actively investing in upskilling its media professionals to keep pace. In line with this vision, the Government Communications Office (GCO), in partnership with the Google News Initiative and the Al Jazeera Media Institute, recently conducted a training program titled Best Practices in Digital Transformation. The initiative brought together journalists, news directors, and media representatives from across Qatar to explore the latest trends in digital journalism.

The program aims to strengthen Qatar’s media institutions by introducing advanced technologies, including AI, to support innovation and elevate journalistic standards.

Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, Director of the GCO, stated, “Qatar increasingly recognises the media sector as a cornerstone for building public awareness and engagement. Our collaboration with Google and Al Jazeera Media Institute demonstrates our commitment to fostering a media environment grounded in innovation and digital literacy.”

He continued, “By forging strategic partnerships with global industry leaders, we’re enhancing Qatar’s media capabilities and equipping professionals with skills to leverage smart technologies to create credible, innovative, and impactful content. This marks a crucial step toward creating a modern local media environment that aligns with our sustainable development goals.”

Mazen Sabbagh, News and Publishing Partnerships Lead for MENA at Google, noted, “The program aimed to empower journalists and news directors to leverage advanced digital tools, including AI, to enhance their journalistic practices.”

Eman Al Amri, Director of the Al Jazeera Media Institute, emphasized the strategic value of AI, describing its integration as “a critical investment in the future of media operations.”

This training is part of the GCO’s broader professional development series, aimed at strengthening Qatar’s media ecosystem.
