Oman’s OQ greenlights $2 billion worth of renewable energy projects
With a combined capacity of 300 megawatts (MW), the projects are part of 13 deals announced at Oman Sustainability Week 2025.

Oman’s state-owned energy company OQ has issued a full notice to proceed on the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of three major renewable energy projects, marking a significant step in the Sultanate’s clean energy drive.
With a combined capacity of 300 megawatts (MW), the projects are part of a broader package of 13 agreements valued at over $2 billion, unveiled during Oman Sustainability Week 2025 in Muscat.
The notice was awarded to a consortium comprising France’s TotalEnergies and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), with Power China as the EPC contractor.
The trio of projects includes the 100 MW North Solar plant in Saih Nihaydah in northern Oman, and two 100 MW wind farms—Riyah-1 and Riyah-2—located in the Amin and West Nimr fields in the south of the country.
Electricity output from the three developments, estimated at 1.4 terawatt-hours annually, will be supplied to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) under long-term power purchase agreements.
The initiative follows a partnership announced in December 2024, under which TotalEnergies and OQAE entered a 49:51 joint venture to co-develop the projects. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025, with operations scheduled for late 2026.
Supporting agreements include the procurement of transformers from Oman-based Voltamp, wind turbines from China’s Goldwind for the Riyah projects, and photovoltaic panels from Longi for the North Solar plant. Financing for the projects is being provided by Bank Muscat and Al Ahli Bank.
OQAE also signed initial agreements for four additional renewable energy ventures.
These include a 700 MW project with United Solar to power the Sohar Polysilicon Plant, a 500 MW development with Jindal Renewables to supply energy to industrial facilities in Suhar and Duqm, and two projects—140 MW and 105 MW respectively—with Oxy Zero In and Vale to power operations in Block 09 and Vale’s Oman facilities.
Further reinforcing its green strategy, OQ inked a strategic energy innovation agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries aimed at advancing sustainable technologies.
