As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its position in the global space industry, the UAE is taking bold steps to advance its space capabilities. In a major development, Abu Dhabi-based Space42 is set to launch the MENA region’s first Earth observation satellite manufacturing hub—an important move aligned with the nation’s ambitions in space exploration and technology.

Abu Dhabi’s Space42 is preparing to launch the MENA region’s first Earth observation satellite manufacturing hub, following the recent opening of its subsidiary Mira Aerospace’s High Altitude Platform Stations manufacturing center in the capital.

These initiatives are part of the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen its Earth Observation (EO) Space Program, which focuses on advancing satellite-based remote sensing capabilities.

Space42, listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, was created by merging two Abu Dhabi-based companies, Bayanat and Yahsat. Its major shareholders include prominent entities such as G42, Mubadala, and the International Holding Company (IHC).

Last year, the company secured a landmark $5 billion, 17-year contract from the UAE government to manufacture new satellites.

In October, the UAE government established the Supreme Space Council to accelerate the growth of the space sector, oversee public policies, and develop a framework for managing infrastructure, facilities, and assets within the industry.
