New law boosts innovation and research, positioning Qatar as a regional hub for science and technology.

As Qatar accelerates its transition toward a knowledge-based economy, national institutions are voicing strong support for new legislation aimed at advancing innovation and scientific research. Among the first to welcome the move is the Qatar Society of Engineers, which praised the law as a transformative step for the nation’s future.
The Society described the recently issued Law No. (8) of 2025 on supporting innovation and scientific research, along with Amiri Decision No. (19) of 2025 establishing the Qatar Foundation for Supporting Innovation and Scientific Research, as a major milestone in driving progress, particularly in the engineering and technology sectors.
In a statement released, the Society expressed its appreciation to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for his leadership, describing the initiative as a strategic platform that unlocks new opportunities for researchers and innovators.
Eng. Amna Mohammed Al Naama, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Society of Engineers, emphasized that “this initiative reflects the insightful vision of the Qatari leadership to build a sustainable national economy based on knowledge and innovation.” She added, “The new foundation will be a key catalyst for unleashing latent potential and encouraging creative ideas, contributing to addressing local and global challenges and strengthening Qatar’s position as a leading regional center for research and development.”
The Society also stressed the importance of establishing a robust governance system for the foundation, calling for high standards of transparency and resource efficiency to maximize national benefit.
The Society concluded by expressing its full readiness to collaborate with the newly established foundation and urged collective efforts across all sectors to realize the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that advance Qatar’s leadership in science and technology.
