Here’s how Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is innovating brain aneurysm treatment
The first patient treated with the device showed successful aneurysm closure within three months.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has carried out the region’s first procedure using the Artisse Intrasaccular Flow Modulator, an advanced implant designed to treat wide-necked brain aneurysms.
Recognized by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi as a Centre of Excellence for stroke, the hospital is the first in the Middle East and North Africa to introduce the technology.
The minimally invasive treatment uses a catheter to place a mesh device that seals the aneurysm, lowering the risk of rupture and stroke. The first patient treated with the device showed successful aneurysm closure within three months.
Fayeza Al Yafie, Executive Director of Healthcare Quality at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said the achievement underscores the emirate’s focus on innovation and high-quality patient care.
Khalil Zahra, Staff Physician in Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, noted that the technique improves treatment options for complex aneurysms while minimizing the need for invasive surgery.
Since launching the UAE’s first multi-organ transplant program in 2017, the hospital has positioned itself as a key referral center for advanced procedures, with the adoption of the device marking another step in strengthening neurological care in the region.
