The two leaders talked about various cultural initiatives and considered ways to enhance mutual cooperation.
During the last leg of his European tour, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Audrey Azoulay, the director-general of UNESCO. The two discussed various cultural initiatives and ways to enhance the partnership with the United Nations agency.
To recall, Saudi Arabia had recently announced a commitment to contribute $25 million to UNESCO strategy and actions for preserving heritage. For those unaware, Mada’in Saleh is Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Saudi commitment will also help in the advancements of UNESCO’s priority programs as well as the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The meeting was attended by Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Science and Culture, Princess Haifa bint Abdulaziz al-Muqrin, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UNESCO, and General Supervisor for Cultural Affairs and International Relations at the Ministry of Culture, Rakan al-Touq.
