The Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning has launched the first National SDG Data Webinar. This webinar, co-developed with the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, is focused on finding ways to report and measure data on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SDGs are universally accepted plans to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. These 17 SDGs are interrelated and recognize that development should balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

As per the UN SDP, several countries have committed to collaborating and helping each other to end poverty, hunger, and discrimination against women and girls.

The Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal Al-Ibrahim, who also serves as the Chairman of the Sustainable Development Steering Committee (SDSC), launched the seminar. He said, “Effectively monitoring and evaluating the kingdom’s fast social, economic and environmental progress requires collective, coherent and coordinated action.”

“As we take great strides toward successfully delivering Vision 2030 and the SDG Agenda, we must ensure that the data used to measure our performance reflects our latest achievements. Aligning with international partners, such as the United Nations, is essential to this and thus unlocking the full potential of our nation,” he further added.

Over 70 government entities and international organizations came together to support the achievement of SDGs in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom is gearing to submit its second Voluntary National Review in 2023 and update its data for the upcoming Sustainable Development Report 2023 by Sustainable Development Solutions Network next year.
