What does a knowledge-led climate strategy look like? Qatar just formalized one
QFZ and Qatar Foundation sign a climate partnership to advance sustainable development in Qatar through research, education, and community engagement initiatives.
In a move aimed at strengthening Qatar’s climate resilience agenda, Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) and Qatar Foundation (QF) have signed a strategic partnership agreement to advance cooperation on climate action and sustainable development.
The agreement establishes a framework designed to enhance Qatar’s preparedness and institutional capacity to address climate change through education, applied research, and community engagement initiatives.
The partnership was formalized at the Business Innovation Park in Ras Bufontas Free Zone, where QFZ CEO H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani and Qatar Foundation CEO Yousif Al Naama signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
According to a statement issued by QFZ, the collaboration will be anchored in Qatar Foundation’s flagship sustainability platforms. This includes cooperation with the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future and the Sustainability Academy at Green Island, Qatar Foundation’s community-focused recycling hub.
The joint initiatives will focus on applied research, policy dialogue, capacity building, and public engagement programs. Priority areas include climate resilience, sustainable development, and innovation-driven environmental solutions.
Implementation will be guided by annual work plans, coordination mechanisms, and impact reporting frameworks to ensure measurable outcomes and effective delivery.
Commenting on the agreement, Sheikh Mohammed said the partnership represents a meaningful step toward reinforcing Qatar’s sustainability ambitions under Qatar National Vision 2030.
“Today’s partnership between QFZ and Qatar Foundation marks a significant step toward a more sustainable future for Qatar, as we strengthen our commitment to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development,” he said. “By joining forces, we can create a greener and more resilient future for generations to come.”
Al Naama emphasized the role of cross-sector collaboration in accelerating climate action.
“Addressing climate change, strengthening national resilience, and engaging society around sustainability is advanced through partnerships built on knowledge, innovation, and shared purpose,” he said.
He added that by fostering sustainability solutions, building human capital in the sector, and encouraging sustainable behaviors across communities, both organizations aim to expand their collective impact in shaping a more sustainable future for Qatar.
As Gulf economies accelerate diversification and sustainability agendas, the QFZ–QF partnership signals a broader shift toward integrated, knowledge-led climate action frameworks that combine research, policy, and community engagement.
